GERALDINE MAGENNIS presented a discussion of the political, social, and educational scenes in her native Northern Ireland and noted comparisons with the neighboring Republic of Ireland. She provided insights on the unique historical backdrop of her divided island. Geraldine also shared Irish tea and homemade Irish bread with her audience.
Geraldine is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Education at Valparaiso University, specializing in Elementary Education. She began her professional career as an Early Years teacher in inner-city Belfast, then went on to achieve a Fulbright Teacher Exchange Scholarship (1996-97) which enabled her to teach a second-grade class in Oceanside, California. She completed her PhD in Northern Ireland and is currently on secondment from St. Mary’s University College in Belfast, where she has trained teachers for the past 13 years.
