What a wonderful evening of culture, conversation, and international friendship!

Thank you to everyone who joined the Valparaiso International Center on July 24 for our Fourth Friday Speaker Series featuring Meylan Li and her presentation on her native Costa Rica.

Meylan took us on a fascinating journey through the beauty, history, traditions, and incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica. From her hometown of Santa Cruz, Guanacaste—Costa Rica’s folkloric capital—to her experiences living in China and now making her home here in Valparaiso, Meylan shared a personal story that beautifully illustrated the connections that can be created when we take the time to learn about one another.

We especially enjoyed learning more about the Costa Rican spirit of “Pura Vida”—a phrase that represents much more than “pure life.” It reflects an outlook centered on optimism, gratitude, kindness, and enjoying life.

A heartfelt thank you to Meylan for sharing her culture and story with us, and to everyone who came out to listen, ask questions, meet new friends, and support the Fourth Friday Speaker Series.
