February Fourth Friday – Amanda Herrera

The Valparaiso International Center’s February Fourth Friday Speaker Series welcomed Amanda Herrera for an inspiring and heartfelt evening of storytelling and cultural reflection. If you were unable to attend—or would simply like to experience the presentation again—you can watch the full video of the event below.

The program was held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, Indiana, and featured Amanda sharing her personal journey from Cuba to the United States.

Born in Cuba in 1997, Amanda relocated to the United States in 2023 with her family, beginning the challenging but hopeful process of building a new life in a new country. Supported by her brother, Fabel Rives—founder of the Las Cubanitas Food Truck—Amanda embraced the opportunity to grow, connect, and become part of a new community.

During her presentation, Amanda spoke about the resilience required to adapt to a new culture and language. Through daily interactions with customers and ongoing communication with her partner, she has steadily developed her English skills while forming meaningful relationships within the community.

Her story is one of perseverance, determination, and pride in her Cuban heritage. Amanda’s reflections highlighted both the challenges and the rewards of starting over in a new country while remaining connected to one’s cultural roots.

We are grateful to Amanda for sharing her journey with the Valparaiso International Center community.
